What has changed here, and why. The list below is not written for this page: it is the repository’s own CHANGELOG.md, read at build time, so it cannot drift from the record it is made of.
A band is a release rather than a month. Older bands are folded shut — open one to read it.
Each takes one thing the wiki already holds and makes it the organising idea of a page. - The Atlas (3.2 Graph): the full-site graph is coloured by place — Projects peach, Areas lilac, Resources ghost, Archive steel — with a stat line above (notes, links, places) and the four places beneath, each with its size and the note most pointed at inside it. Indegree is read from the same links field Backlinks uses, so "4 notes point here" is the same 4. One vendored function changed; see docs/quartz-patches.md. - The Ladder (2.1 Reviews): a season strip — count, average, high, low, film : music — computed from the scores in the frontmatter; the four scores on a 0–100 line; a fixed rank by score at the head of every row and the score drawn as a bar beside the figure. Every review page carries a rank chip: "Rank 2 of 4 · Season 2026", with links to both neighbours. - The Reading Room (every review and course chapter): both rails fold away at desktop width and the prose takes the 42rem measure reader mode already uses. What the rails held comes back as a book's furniture: a running head with the address, the title and the position, pinned once the page's own head has scrolled off and carrying a ramp line that fills as you read; the chapter numeral (or the score) large in the left margin with the course's chapter marks beneath it; "Linked from" in the right gutter; and on a chapter, a trail — the course, what came before, and the next chapter with its read time. :has() keeps it progressive: without it the rails stay. - The Year (3.7 The Year, new): the year across the page with one tick per note in the month it was filed, then the months as bands newest first. A note revised in a later month counts as a revision there, so the 5 September pass reads as fourteen revisions in September, not fourteen new notes. - The Wall (3.8 The Wall, new): no list — a feature and a wall of tiles, the reviews with their posters, the notes without one carrying themselves on type and saying so. Pokémon's tile says it has no poster rather than showing a stand-in.
Two Dutch pages more fall back to English with the banner: The Year and The Wall carry no prose of their own to translate yet.
The stylesheet ceiling is 128 KB and the whole-build ceiling 5.85 MB, each with the measurement and the reason beside it in budget.json. Both goals are unchanged.
The changelog page no longer prints a refresh-arrow glyph in its own entry; check-fonts caught the codepoint the moment the entry became reader-facing, and it is named as U+21BA instead.
Concept B from the sidebar board. It was a file tree in which the area, the course and the chapter were all set in 11px uppercase Courier, so all nine chapter titles wrapped to two lines and the tree ran to 723px — and on a chapter page the tree was never the question. WhereYouAre replaces it with three blocks under the ramp rule: the area and the note; the course, with a progress bar, the position and the minutes still ahead, and every chapter marked read / reading / ahead; and the four areas with live counts. The minutes are measured from the chapters with reading-time, so chapter 4 of 9 reports 24 min left and the hub reports 42, rather than asserting either. Blocks that would repeat themselves are dropped: no note title on an area index, whose title is the area, and none on a course hub, which the course block names anyway.
The rail is desktop-only and the Explorer stays on the phone, because the Explorer's button is also the phone's navigation sheet. That means two navigations ship on every page — 1,223 B/page for the rail and 1,791 for the Explorer — and the whole-build ceiling is raised to 5.60 MB to cover it, with the duplication named in budget.json as the thing to remove rather than a reason for another raise.
The summary row is marked with a middot, not a refresh arrow: U+21BA is in none of the subsets this build serves and scripts/check-fonts.mjs caught it falling back to a system face.
It is mounted as DesktopOnly(SeriesNav({ variant: "spine" })), but DesktopOnly works by passing a displayClass prop that the component is expected to put on its own root — and SeriesNav took the prop and dropped it. So at 390 the spine drew 169px wide below the article: a third way to reach the next chapter, under a prev/next pager that already offers it and after a closing line in the prose that already names it. All three SeriesNav roots now carry displayClass. Measured after: display: none at 390, unchanged at 1000 and 1440.
Glenn's call, applied everywhere a reader can see the word: twelve sentences of English prose and eleven of Dutch, both area and note descriptions, the 404's "every note in the wiki lives under one of four areas" in both languages, and two lines of this changelog that became reader-facing the moment it got a page. 3 Resources/3.4 How This Garden /3-Resources/3.4-How-This-Garden-Works still resolves — checked, it redirects. GardenLog became WikiLog while it was still a day old and nothing depended on it. The .garden-card, .garden-grid and .garden-section-title class names are deliberately left: they are not reader-facing, and garden-section-title` is written by hand into eleven vault notes, so renaming it is churn with no reader benefit. Zero visible occurrences remain across all 108 pages.
This file has been in the repository since the first commit and was readable only by cloning it. quartz/util/changelog.ts parses it and GardenLog renders it at 3 Resources/3.6 Changelog, banded by release the way glennabraas.com's Timeline bands by month — a changelog's unit is the release, not the month, which is also why the entry count sits in the band. Read at render time, so the page cannot disagree with the file it is made of. Older bands are a <details>, so they open without scripting and find-in-page can open them. 18 tests.
.com's AI & Agency page sets its opening block one word per element, seventy-one of them, and brings them up as you read; the wiki had nothing like it. WordReveal does the same on the AI 101 hub and nowhere else — one page, the way .com spends it. It is driven by an IntersectionObserver rather than by scroll offset, because .com's block sits at y=757 under a full hero while the wiki's hub opens straight into prose at y=270, where a scroll-driven version was 86% finished before the reader touched the wheel. Reduced motion never splits the paragraph at all, and a failsafe takes the dimming off, so no word can be stranded unreadable.
The AI 101 hub carries the four-column framing CourseIndex has always been able to render — what the course gives you, what it skips, who it is for and how long it takes. The minutes are measured from the chapters, not asserted: nine of them, forty-two minutes in all.
The course index is .com's three-up numbered grid with a read time on each chapter, the homepage gives its newest note the full measure on the ramp before the row of cards, and a tag page is .com's News row — the kind above the title, the date under it, and a control that names the action.
scripts/validate-build.mjs looks for the malformed image/. mime type inside a meta tag's content rather than anywhere in the document. The whole-document scan flagged the new changelog page, which quotes that string in its own account of the fault: the guard was reading the report as the bug.
1,440 bytes of dead CSS removed: the three-pillar homepage (.home-pillars, .pillar and its six children), which the contents ledger replaced and which rendered on no page, and the .ga-btn--ghost / --secondary selectors, which nothing has ever carried.
The stylesheet ceiling is raised to 110 KB with the reason beside it in budget.json; the 70 KB goal and the fold that gets there are unchanged.
quartz/static/icon.png was still the July icon — a ghost G on the v1 indigo/coral mesh, the last of that palette anywhere on the site. It is now the Design Map's Square · Crop poster with its four Courier corner labels removed: the peach-to-lilac ramp G on ink, cropped so the counter and bar carry the letterform. Checked at the sizes a browser actually draws — it still reads as a G at 16px. glennabraas.com serves the same artwork at 1080 as its WordPress site icon. 41.2 KB → 22.3 KB.
scripts/audit.cjs sweeps 17 page kinds at two widths across both language trees and follows every internal link. Six real faults fixed: steel was under WCAG AA as running text (3.94:1 at worst), so text now uses --ga-steel-lit while steel keeps every rule, background and deliberately unlit state; and the phone menu button had no accessible name. Three more found by looking rather than measuring: the reviews page said both "All 5 reviews" and "3" for the same set (cards counted files, the index counted groups — a spoiler twin is the same review), "ALL 1 REVIEWS" had no singular branch, and the progress ring drew over the language banner's Close button. The sweep's own first run reported 80 faults of which 73 were its own bad rules; those are documented at the head of the script. Write-up: docs/general-fix-2026-09-16.md.
It had been skinned to the July map (Neon Lilac, Sunset Peach, a cyan focus ring, an indigo-to-coral mesh hero, pills and 20px cards, Sora at two weights). Now: the v2 palette read off the live .com, squares with the 22px button as the one exception, Sora ExtraBold only, Courier Prime for every label, Outfit Light 18/32 for reading with a 20/33 lede, links as peach hairlines, the score in the ramp, and the header as the .com ledger row — one 60px band across the page with the name, the sections, and EN|NL as the Twin Switch. Hover lights and never lifts. Write-up with the measurements: docs/v2-alignment-2026-09-16.md.
scripts/check-v2.mjs asserts all of that from a browser, against the local preview or the live site.
The stylesheet budget ceiling is raised to 98 KB with the reason beside it; the goal is unchanged and the fold that brings it back down is named.
Ten unused callout types are no longer shipped (docs/quartz-patches.md).
A UX and engineering pass over the whole site. Full write-up with the numbers in `docs/status-2026-09-06.md`; this is the summary.
The homepage, the reviews index and the related lists each required frontmatter.poster and rejected any title matching /\(Spoiler Review\)/i. The newest and highest-scored review has no cover art and exists only as a spoiler review, so it failed both. The title test was English-only, so review pairing was already broken in /nl/. All three surfaces now share util/reviews, which pairs on slugs.
Accessibility basics that were entirely absent: no page had a <main> or a skip link, every article's first heading was an h2 from the sidebar, muted text sat under AA contrast, no toggle announced its state, and no image declared its size.
The Dutch site had English chrome throughout, and its footer's root-absolute links left the Dutch tree on every click.
A pre-paint script redirected Dutch-configured browsers to /nl/ before the page painted, silently changing the URL a reader had been given.
Dates fell back to filesystem mtimes, so the sitemap and feed differed between clones.
og:image:type was image/.webp on every page; the RSS description read "Laatste 10 notities on Glenn Abraas"; alias stubs in the Dutch tree claimed lang="en-us"; /tags/draft published a list of unfinished work.
The 404 page shipped with no Search and no Explorer.
Three-pillar homepage, site navigation, course navigation with prev/next and a finish state, generated section and lesson indexes, two-way spoiler links, and a table of contents (the CSS had always shipped; nothing ever rendered it).
rel=canonical, JSON-LD (Review, Article, BreadcrumbList, WebSite), sitemap xhtml:link alternates, feed atom:link and categories.
LanguageSuggest: offers the other language instead of taking it.
A build that checks itself: lint-content, build-images, dedupe-nl, validate-build, size-budget. 118 unit tests, up from 55.
docs/quartz-patches.md: every vendored Quartz file this repo has changed.
3 Resources/3.1 How I Score — a draft, worth a pass in Glenn's own voice.
Up to twelve requests per visit, with the API key in the script bundle and the visitor's IP reaching a third party before the consent dialog was answered. It renders from a build-time snapshot with locally cached art. The key was committed in plaintext and should be rotated.
The script bundle went from 716.5 KB to 114.7 KB: the graph library loads only on the page that draws a graph.
Fonts are woff2 on a shared path, the search index is lazy behind a 6 KB explorer index, and the two language trees stopped shipping 38 identical files. Whole build 6.92 MB → 4.99 MB.
Deploy refuses placeholder credentials by name, supports --dry-run, and uploads only what changed. Three preview servers became one.
package.json has this site's identity instead of Quartz's.
The Latex plugin and its KaTeX CDN requests, mermaid, a dead cdnjs preconnect, HomeButton, LatestReviews, and the CSS this work orphaned.
The 805 MB InstaWP export of glennabraas.com from 22 July 2026 (glennabraas-com-20260722-…/), four theme-source snapshot zips from 23 July (backups/), and a stale 4 August copy of the MCP repo's site-content/ — none of them part of this site. Sent to the Recycle Bin, not deleted outright.
Quartz upstream boilerplate that never applied to this project: .github/ (workflows gated on the upstream repository name, FUNDING, issue and PR templates, dependabot), CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md, Dockerfile, .gitattributes, the stock README.md.
Generated output and caches (public/, .quartz-nl-content/, tsconfig.tsbuildinfo) — rebuilt by npm run build; now gitignored.
A duplicate image (Playlists.png was byte-identical to Spotify Recs.png), two Windows shortcuts and an empty .code-workspace.
AI-101-wijzigingen.md → docs/AI-101-wijzigingen-2026-08-17.md — the record of the 17 August prose pass over the AI 101 series.
V2.md → docs/V2-roadmap.md.
Spotify Recs.png, Spotify Lists2.png, Feedback/ → docs/design-refs/.
STIJL-BRIEFING.md (from the deleted export) → docs/stijl-briefing-2026-07.md — the hand-written style brief for the glennabraas.com look.
This changelog, a project README.md, and a .gitignore that keeps build output, secrets and Obsidian workspace state out of git.
Recorded a correction: .env does not hold live FTP credentials — all three connection values are still the Quartz template's placeholders, so npm run deploy has never worked from this checkout. Nothing was ever exposed.
Learned the hard way: Quartz globs its input with gitignore: true, so listing the generated .quartz-nl-content/ in .gitignore made the Dutch build find 0 files (English unaffected). It is excluded through .git/info/exclude instead, with a note in .gitignore explaining why. Both builds verified at 43 input files / 112 emitted.
.claude/settings.local.json pruned to the one rule that still applies; four pointed at a OneDrive path from before the project moved to L:.
First commit: the site as found on 5 September 2026, before any clean-up or content alignment. Quartz 4.5.2, 44 English notes, 39 Dutch overlay notes, custom components, FTP deploy.
53 entries, read from the repository's own CHANGELOG.md at build time.
